Bradford has a plentiful supply of brownfield sites that have not been developed.
In her judgement dated 8/6/2020 in Aireborough Neighbourhood Development Forum vs Leeds City Council, Mrs Justice Lieven found that it was wrong to leave Green Belt sites in a development plan solely because the Council wished to reduce the numbers around the district proportionately. Green belt should be removed from the plan and brownfield sites built on first.
This judgement is surely just as relevant to Bradford.
Our Prime Minister's "Build Build Build" announcement on 30/6/2020 said brownfield building would be made easier to protect Green Belt. This should be bourne in mind and our Green Belt not built on.

There are already too many cars in & around cottingley. Exiting to the main road is already very busy at peak times. Traffic around the school is particularly bad as there is nowhere to park. Accessing or exiting the proposed housing via March cote Lane would be problematic as already a lot of parked cars & traffic. Exiting via Coppy close would be an issue as only a single car can pass through. Airedale avenue is not much better. Flooding is already an issue for houses at the bottom of March cote Lane, particularly Manor Fold & additional houses would exacerbate the problem. Not enough parking at the shops or around the community centre for additional vehicles, this can already be full if there are events at the community centre

Cottingley is already a busy place to live. I am all for change and progress but building on Greenbelt is unacceptable. These fields provide absorbent land helping to stem significant surface water run off. Also, there is wildlife here - deer, curlew, lapwing, skylark.
There has already been new housing developments very close to Cottingley which ultimately has a massive impact on the infrastructure therefore, building more houses would exacerbate the issues Cottingley already has, not alleviate them.
More cars on the road = more air pollution, more congestion, more accidents.
More people residing in Cottingley = massive impact on GP/NHS services, available places at our local schools.
I implore you to give this great consideration. Greenbelt became Greenbelt for a reason, it is not right to list the title to suit. There are so many empty homes in Bradford, why not make use of these?

Increased traffic and pollution in the area. More accidents as more traffic. It is more dangerous as the area does not have much traffic at the moment the housing project will create more traffic.
Increased flood damage to existing properties
It is endangering wildlife and destroying the habitats of plants and animal. This will negatively affect the population of wild birds that are all ready severely threatened.
Loss of British wildlife
The field and some trees protects against flooding as it absorbs a lot of surface water.

I object to the building plans, as the local school is already too full, there's too many cars already on our roads throughout cottingley, the main road into cottingley is already ridiculously busy, and children find it hard to cross the road safely. The green belt should be kept as that, to protect our wildlife which is already dwindling. We need to protect it. I just hope and prey they don't get planning permission to build all those houses because it really will be an eyesore.

If the provision of new housing is so desperate, surely there are derelict sites which could benefit from recovery and provision of smart new housing, rather than threatening wildlife, flood damage to existing properties, increased traffic flow, shortage of school places and GP access, and other local services such as shopping. (Since the last new housing project it's difficult to find parking spaces now). What could be the exceptional circumstances that make it necessary to invade our Green Belt in view of the general desecration of the planet?

It's time people were able to afford to live by their family should they wish. Younger working people should not be forced out into the city areas where generally there is smaller houses with little or no garden space. We need to be careful that we dont become an older generation town with grandparents hardly seeing grandchildren. It would be good to attract working professionals who can contribute to the local economy growth.

I object because it will create more of a burden on local facilities such as the schools, surgery and dentist. It will also creat more traffic in the area therefore leading to pollution which is harmful not only for the wildlife but to the elderly residents. The new development will lead to an increase of flooding which is already an issue.

By adding these 155 houses that mean more extra trouble with traffic specialty in the rush hours specially with one access to Cottingley and also will this affect exciting families accessing local school places & GP provision.

I feel that this proposal will severely affect this area. mainly due to the increased traffic as you have already mentioned that cars/person in the Cottingley area is above average. There is major congestion backing up to the end of the bypass. Also any further reduction in greenbelt & issues affecting drainage is a bad Idea as there are issues with flooding into Grange Park area from the Staybright area. Please take my feedback .
Thanks Joe Green.

Concerns about impact on local services and increased risk of flooding. Building is already in progress on the retirement homes in Bingley and apartments are to be built on the old law courts which will both impact on medical and other services in Bingley.

Do not build on green belt land. These fields provide absorbent land, building on them will increase flood damage to existing properties. The fields provide habitats for threatened bird species such as skylark, lapwing and curlew; they our precious British wildlife. There are also implications for increased traffic.

Traffic is already at a dangerous level more houses will increase traffic levels.
how will schools/nurseries manage extra children?
I work in a GP surgery and have seen the negative effects of extra housing on primary care.

I find it very hypocritical of the council to state one of it's priorities is a green environment which promotes clean air then intends to cram so many houses onto such a small area of land. Where will call the traffic go? The surrounding streets are busy enough with traffic, especially at school finishing times. Also what about Dr.s / GP facilities and schools.
There are enough empty buildings within the Bradford and Shipley boundaries, why are they not cleaned up and used to build affordable housing?
You will turn a small village into a traffic nightmare, I strongly object.

The planning is on a green belt which is supposed to be protected.
The fields act as a natural drain, building new settlements increases flood risk.
There are a couple or threatened bird species which live on the field.
They are plenty of brownfield sites in and around Bradford that can be used instead without the need to build onto green space.
The traffic around cottingley will become worse.

Flooding is a risk to the local area and school ·as happened in January 2020 The Environment Agency surface water flood mapping clearly shows three channels that run nearby the school:
o Cottingley Beck to the north – an established stream.
o A first unnamed stream that runs towards the school and then diverts towards...
A second unnamed-stream that runs along the eastern edge of the school.
· The first unnamed-stream is the source of the flooding.
· This stream flows in a partially culverted, partially open channel through the woods to the south-west of the school.
· When this stream ‘outfalls’ on the school boundary its having to make a right angle turn to the south-east and draining into the second unnamed stream.
· This outfall is flooding and resulting in the water finding new, lines of less resistance to flow through including onto the highway and school site

The road infrastructure around the local community at, but not exclusive to Marchcote Lane, Coppy Close, Main st, Lysander Way will be unable to cope with the large plant vehicles requiring access to the site and for the increase in traffic from the proposed residents. Research indicates that most households have 1.5 cars resulting in more than 230 cars just in this area. This does take in to account the increase in traffic to the wider area with the proposals further afield at Nabwood, Hallmark card site and wider. Without significant work the roads will not cope.
The number of accidents will increase - there have been two fatalities in the past year. Bats and other wildlife including deer, lapwings are active in the March cote lane area.
Homes at the foot of the proposed WILL flood as the current drainage barely copes with the now

1. Increased risk of flooding due to increased demand on drainage when new houses built. Already water flows down hill onto march cote lane.
2. Education - local schools already oversubscribed which means school places will be more difficult to secure therefore local children will have to travel futher.
3. Increased noise/air pollution whilst buildingwork ongoing.
4. Habitat destruction.

I do not think that the Sites proposed for Cottingley fully take into account the existing problems of over congestion within the area.
There isn't enough capacity with the amenities, Doctor's Surgeries and Schooling. Access to the proposed sites is going to be a massive problem.
Especially the site C01/H (adjacent to Marchcote Lane).
Also why are Green Belt sites even being considered when there must be brownfield sites available to be developed?

It all good and well-adding new home to a field, but how is the local road infrastructure expected to handle it? 150 new homes, with two cars per household, that is an additional 300 cars.
• Firstly, March Cote Lane would suffer from this traffic increase, adding risk for local children with pollution and road safety.
• Secondly, Cottingley Moor Road, beside the primary school, is suffering a significant problem with child safety due to the number of cars currently around the school and high pollution levels already.
While all filtering on to an extremely busy Cottingley Cliffe Road, how do these plans hope to address these problems?

Green spaces are essential, we already have increased flood problems in our area, removing absorbent land will increase those problems. Also this land is home to a variety of wildlife, some of which is threatened, such as curlew, lapwings and sky larks.

You have proposed to.build 1242 new homes within a Mile of Cottingley. It doesnt matter whether 2 of them come under the Shipley ward or 2 in the Heaton ward etc.
This is going to crucify Cottingley, and paralyse it from a traffic point of view.
200 extra houses on Greenbelt next to the busiest roundabout in the area?? Are you all having a laugh?
Please reconsider.
