Draft Bradford District Local Plan - Preferred Options (Regulation 18) February 2021

Representation ID: 24621

Received: 24/03/2021

Respondent: Michelle Schofield

Representation Summary:

3.3.9 We are aware that the demographics of each of the Local Growth centres are different and with respect to affordable housing each area has a very different affordability ratio. Burley-in-Wharfedale has the highest affordability ratio of all and we are concerned that little truly affordable housing has been delivered locally. We are concerned that developers can make affordable home payment contributions in lieu of delivery of affordable housing provision on site which undermines the purpose of Core Strategy HO5 and 3.3.9. Why is this mitigation required at any site across the District and will you commit to ending this practice?

We would also like to understand what employment opportunities BDMC believe exist within Burley-in-Wharfedale that would support the employment assertion in 3.3.9?

Representation ID: 24886

Received: 24/03/2021

Respondent: CEG Land Promotions Ltd

Agent: Lichfields

Representation Summary:

The articulation of a broad settlement hierarchy is supported in order to establish a sustainable pattern of growth and development across the district. Burley-in-Wharfedale’s continued designation as a local growth centre as set out in Policies SP2: Spatial Priorities and SP3: Hierarchy of Settlements is also supported. Such an approach is consistent with the approach set out in the adopted Core Strategy, where Burley-in-Wharfedale’s designation as a Local Growth Centre was subject to examination and deemed to be sound.

Draft Bradford District Local Plan - Preferred Options (Regulation 18) February 2021

Representation ID: 25178

Received: 23/03/2021

Respondent: Bradford Chamber of Commerce

Representation Summary:

The Chamber supports the aim of directing a large proportion of development to the City of Bradford including Shipley/Canal Rd corridor. It is imperative that if the District is to meet its economic growth ambitions, the balance within the city centre of new homes to employment opportunities should be more balanced.

It is important that the role of the Principal Towns in providing employment opportunities in different sectors is recognised and some new employment land provided to support the retention of jobs in these key areas. A failure to do so will impact upon the ability of these sustainable locations to retain employers, particularly where there is strong pressure for housing development. Any site allocations (i.e. employment, housing, open space, etc) need to be considered in a methodical and consistent approach across the District.
