Draft Bradford District Local Plan - Preferred Options (Regulation 18) February 2021
Consultation Question 98

Respondent: Baildon Town Council
COMMUNITY: Simply building more houses does not address fundamental issues and great thought must be given into the idea of building Communities NOT just houses. This means that prior to the building houses investment in infrastructure, community facilities, doctors’ surgeries and schools must be made – NOT after building houses. We must not repeat the mistakes of the past with soulless estates and no community facilities. Facilities such as local shops (being used more and more since the pandemic), community halls and play areas must be factored in appropriately. To help create a sense of community, which would be advantageous to people’s health and wellbeing Investment must be made in community facilities such as a community hall/coffee shops, playgrounds etc. This is particularly so along West Lane which is over a mile from the centre of Baildon, and Cliffe Lane West, and would reduce the need for people to use cars to shop for ad-hoc and small item such as bread and milk

BUSINESSES: Baildon has seen to supply of premises for small business, which are the lifeblood of communities, reduce over time and thought should be given into creating opportunities to build such premises. This would have many benefits for the local community and, of people can work locally, would reduce the need to commute on what are already overcrowded roads.

Consultation Question 8
Representation ID: 28583
Received: 24/03/2021
Respondent: Baildon Town Council
CYCLE USE: Increasing use of cycles is a must and is also Government policy, so Investment in cycle lanes and tracks along West Lane and through Baildon into Saltaire and Shipley would pay huge dividends in the long run. At the moment with congested roads cyclists simply do not feel safe on the roads and will not allow their children to cycle to school because of the dangers. Great thought must be put into creative ways to reduce cars and increase cycle opportunities.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT: This must be part of an environmentally friendly local plan and investment in bus and train services will be critical in meeting carbon emissions targets. Bus services along West Lane should be at least 3 per hour during peak times reducing to 2 per hour, down to Baildon Station and Shipley. Train services from Baildon should also increase to 3 per hour as a minimum during peak times.

DOCTORS AND DENTISTS: Current doctors and dental surgeries in Baildon are over-subscribed so some thought must go into how these services can be improved/
