The sites for new housing will place a greater burden on the local schools which are already over subscribed. There is no mention of improving Ilkley Grammar to cope with the potential large influx of school age children.
The access to the Ben Rhydding road site along Wheatley Grove is also not suitable for potentially 260 cars and the junctions at Wheatley Lane and Bolling Road will need significant improvement to make them safe, this will also cause significant pressure on the traffic lights at the railway under pass.
The site at Coutances Way was the original site for a relocated Ilkley Grammar School and remains the only site in Ilkley which can accommodate a school of sufficient size to serve Ilkley and the surrounding towns.
To now change this to housing without addressing the poor state of the Grammar School is criminal.
