Natural England welcomes the approach set out within Policy DS2, which states that plans and development proposals should take advantage of existing features, integrate development into the wider landscape and create new quality green spaces and landscape features.

We advise that item F could be made more robust by the inclusion of the following wording:
Use plant species which are appropriate to the local character and conditions, and which reinforce existing and priority ecosystem services as identified in Policy EN2.

Policy DS2 should have regard for the National Design Guide which was adopted in 2019 (with further updates made in 2021) and is a material planning consideration - its high level principles regarding design for nature include:
- N1 Provide a network of high quality, green open spaces with a variety of landscapes and activities, including play;
- N2 Improve and enhance water management; and
- N3 Support rich and varied biodiversity.
