Draft Bradford District Local Plan - Preferred Options (Regulation 18) February 2021

Representation ID: 2160

Received: 18/03/2021

Respondent: Mr Martin Priestley

Representation Summary:

Rather than concreting over our greenbelt land, the council should be prioritizing brownfield sites and derelict buildings for development. The land in question is unsuitable for building. It is steep and boggy, and potentially unstable due to springs and historic mining. The land is heavily water-logged, but by holding this water up on the hillside, it is aiding massively in flood prevention. If 164 houses are permitted to be built, then this will be lost, and the new rooftops will channel rainwater straight into the drains, increasing flood risk lower down in Nab Wood. The area is teeming with wildlife, including deer, foxes, moles and owls, and the trees not only provide fresh air and store carbon, but also help to filter out local pollution. All of the local schools are all over-subscribed. More houses will only exacerbate this problem, as well as putting pressure on doctors, dentists etc too.
