Draft Bradford District Local Plan - Preferred Options (Regulation 18) February 2021

Representation ID: 23658

Received: 23/03/2021

Respondent: Peter Bryson

Representation Summary:

The centre of Addingham is prone to severe flooding - groundwater and surface water flooding. The Town Beck frequently overtops, flooding neighbouring properties.

Responsibility for flood precautions/prevention measures lies with Bradford Council. No additional flood prevention measures have been put in place in Addingham since the severe and widespread flooding of December 2015.

More development on greenfield areas will significantly increase the severe flood risks pose downstream. Proposals will expose more existing properties to far more frequent flooding.

These risks will only increase over the period covered by the Plan, because the greater impact of climate change which is predicted by 2035. This reappraisal of the major flood risks obviously needs to carefully consider the future impact of climate change

No further development on any greenbelt or greenfield site should even be permitted until after the Council has updated and completed its statutory Flood Risk Assessment for the Addingham area.
