Respondent: Ms Helen Bowman-Wray

Representation Summary:

This site in addition to SH5/H is not sustainable for housing use. It is close to the river, which already floods at least every 5 years in Branksome Drive next to the field and will impact down the Aire Valley. In 2015 the Aire flooded through these fields

In order to meet CAZ targets, biodiversity commitments and acknowledge the Climate emergency, executive housing with at least 1.3 cars and no nearby amenities contradicts this. Eco-housing must also be a consideration. Surely the best use of this land is for flood alleviation work including tree planting? Also to preserve and enhance an important wildlife corridor.

There are brownfield sites not already identified such as the mill complex between Shipley Fields and Frizinghall Road and also potential former retail sites post pandemic. The WH buffer zone is also a factor.
