Draft Bradford District Local Plan - Preferred Options (Regulation 18) February 2021

Representation ID: 29259

Received: 24/03/2021

Respondent: Environment Agency

Representation Summary:

We note that the CR8/HC – New Bolton Woods site within the Housing Delivery and strategic Sites (HO1) layer, encompasses a significant length of Bradford Beck water course.

Based on what is currently shown within the interactive map, the Bradford Beck water body bisects the proposed housing site.

We would like to flag the need for the existing water body to be protected and enhanced through any future development of this site. This would ideally include the creation of an undeveloped buffer zone. We would also like to highlight that Bradford Beck is confined to an open (and in parts closed) brick-lined culvert through much of this area. Significant ecological and geomorphological improvement opportunities (in line with the Humber River Basin Management Plan (RBMP) and Water Framework Directive (WFD) water body objectives) exist within this area, and improvement of the beck habitats could contribute significantly to Biodiversity Net Gain (including anticipated statutory 10% BNG requirement).
