Horrendous. Ruining our beautiful scenery. Harmful to wildlife. Disgrace to Bronte. Will cause too much traffic on Thornton road. Put pressure on the doctors. Put pressure on the dentist. Ruining the villages quality of life.

As part of the Bronte way and the Bronte stones walk and development on this site would have far reaching consequences for tourists , walkers, school parties, the success of these walks has led Thornton to become a destination village for bronte lovers, and walkers. This has had a positive impact on cafes, pubs, shops , B &Bs. The long ranging views of the valley to the moors and back along to Thornton village would be impacted negatively. Also the sense of walking past other listed buildings would be lost. Being the birth place of the Bronte's should be a consideration on all planning that would negatively impact on the growing tourist interest of the village and walking in the landscape of the Bronte's.

This area is part of vital green spaces in the village. The bronte way will not be attractive to tourists if 150 houses are built on it. Everything in this village is already full. The school is too big and is over subscribed. There is no parking in the village near the shops which causes constant problems and frequent accidents. There are 27 people on the waiting lists for the allotments even. There is not the infrastructure for this many new houses. There are so many areas in Bradford that have land with derelict and abandoned buildings on them. Surely they should be used first before green agricultural land is used for new housing

The infrastructure in Thornton will not support another 150 houses.
Drainage is already a problem in Thornton
Schools and doctors are already oversubscribed
Building around the Brontë way would impact the attraction for tourists and lead to a decrease

Thornton doesn't have the infrastructure to support such a development. There area already traffic problems in the village, this will increase those bringing safety concerns into consideration. Particularly near the primary school which will be the main route into Bradford.
The development will also ruin land used by walkers.

For several reasons I object to this
- proximity to the Brontë trail.
- with the 250 house proposal across the road the traffic increase would be massive.
- loss of green space
- over development of the village
- lack of local infrastructure drainage/ roads etc that would require significant improvement to handle the increased traffic.
- safety of school crossing due to increased traffic loads and students
- proximity to grade 2 listed buildings would be detrimental to that grading.
- prominence of the hillside location would change the image of the village significantly.

Adequacy of parking/loading/turning on the site but mainly affecting the existing village infrastructure
Highway safety particularly at the Coop food store which is the village food store and will be used by the additional residents (already dangerous)
Traffic generation
Noise and disturbance resulting from use
Loss of trees
Effect on listed buildings and conservation area, the design will be poor quality and will not attract international visitors to see the new estate, and will harm the context of the existing conservation area
Thornton is poorly served by fire, ambulance and police. With the police point being closed despite a growing population
Facilities the pool has been closed yet people still need to keep fit
Overlooking/loss of privacy to some local houses through passing traffic and public etc
Too many more people to support dangerous James Street ThorntonRoad corner
Massive increase in size of village from 100% to circa 150% size

Not opposed to the housing in general but most definitely oppose it if there is to be no expansion in schools, medical centre and dental practice as these facilities are extremely stretched without adding to them.
Provision also needs to be made for parking. The estate opposite the cemetery causes big issues parking on both sides of Thornton Road narrowing it down greatly so definitely does not need adding to.

As a regular visitor to Haworth I am very upset to hear of the proposal for a housing development that will ruin both the Brontë Stones Walk and the Brontë Way. Instead of walking across beautiful fields with unspoiled views of the valley we would be walking in the shadow of the backs of houses. Please preserve this ancient right of way so close to where the Brontë's were born.

Historical and tourist attraction ruined and lost forever, gridlocked village dangerous lack of parking, school parking child places unavailable, GP small and already can’t cope with village capacity, dental practice same problem as GP.
Enough housing developments in our area. Countryside with scenic views across valley lost. Damage to wildlife, we have deer, perigen falcons all endangered but seen regular on and around that land.

There are already issues with water/drains etc coming down from the hill and we are worried that having 150 houses on that the area up the hill could impact on the houses lower down. Thornton already has lots of traffic and is a small village, with another 150 houses could potentially means another (min) 150 cars resulting in more pollution. It will impact on schools, local amenities, doctors, dentist which are already struggling with over capacity of people who currently reside in Thornton. Many local people walk on the path and the little countryside we have will lose its nature, peacefulness and beautiful views which Thornton is renown for.

The village is not designed for this quantity of growth, the roads are already heavily overcrowded even outside of rush hour. The doctors & dentists are impossible to get an appointment with, & the schools are overcrowded, all the reasons for me moving away 3 years ago. & the removal of more greenbelt land will destroy the "picture postcard" image of the "Bronte Birthplace" which the village is known for.

I’m opposing this site due to the damage this is going to cause to our village..we don’t have enough kids clubs or schools doctors dentist in this village as it let alone another 150 houses going up..the council have already said that further up Thornton road you have already planned 250 houses..the traffic on Thornton road is going to be ridiculous not only the volume but the pollution around our village and local school..they is plenty of empty developments within Bradford that these houses could be built not on our green belt that we want to keep beautiful for the future generations to enjoy..it will not only spoil the views but the wildlife thst lives there and the beautiful walls that me and my family now take will be gone..I’m asking the council to think very carefully before they ruin our village..please leave the land alone and put village

This site will make it difficult for us to sell our houses that are already here and may also affect the value of our houses. It is higher ground and has natural springs so the amount of work needed to stop this impacting on existing houses could be an issue. Could this work damage the structure of existing houses? This area is used for walking regularly by local people as it is spacious and open with nice views over the valley. People have bought the houses here for the views of the fields and cemetery which would be ruined by masses of new houses. I’m concerned about the amount of traffic that will be brought to this area as it is already bad around school hours-this is also a safety concern. I think there are more appropriate areas for a housing development than right in the centre of existing settlements.

Thornton is becoming sprawling & over populated, with little or no improvement made to the village infrastructure.
The site is realistically unsuitable due to its topography plus its ground saturation level due to the multitude of natural springs which run all year round through the fields.
It is a very popular green space, forming a section of the Bronte Way used constantly by walkers, runners & cyclists, of which would be spoilt by this proposed development at a time when we are constantly reminded of the benefits of exercise and fresh air for mental health & well being.
The visual impact of such a development positioned so high on the valley side would be detrimental to the surrounding area.
Increase of traffic on an already very busy main road.
Please reconsider this proposal there are far more suitable sites

Destruction of green space, wildlife habitat.increase in congestion ,no clean air for Thornton.
Village life eroded already.Brownfield sites are plentiful in Bradford. Why destroy areas of green spaces.
Should take into account other developments already who use Thornton Road to travel for work schools etc.Traffic horrendous already.Schools, doctors already over capacity.
So many buildings and sites empty or derelict across Bradford perfectly suited for affordable housing ,yet green spaces are being destroyed. This plan is about the most profit for devolpers not about meeting the need for affordable housing.
The destruction of green spaces are indefensible when so many other alternatives are plentiful and available.
I strongly object to this development.

This would be detrimental to the village...lack of facilities are already an issue before adding more houses. The Council need to promote the village as the Bronte birthplace to bring money into the local economy, not build houses on the Bronte way and block the view with buildings.

The area of Thornton Rd has been the site of many accidents over the years - some serious - so to introduce another potential 300 cars would inevitably result in a fatal accident.
Having experienced the impossibility of obtaining an appointment at Thornton Medical Centre over the last decade I can't see how in the foreseeable future I will have any chance just when I’ll need to. Similarly there’s no room at the dentist surgery.
When the Woodsley Fold estate was built property nearby suffered structural damage due to the hours of pile driving - presumably the same thing will happen ....
The birthplace of the Brontes will be destroyed.

Destruction of the Brontë way. Completely alter the impact of the footpath and it's open views. Flooding risk from run off which is a major problem on Thornton road already. Visual impact is unacceptable. No school places available for primary children. Increased traffic through the village and increased parking hazards on main road

The area under consideration to build 150 homes is a beautiful green area, many people, including myself, family and friends use the walkways and country paths to enjoy walks up there, like quite a lot of people who visit Thornton for the walks over the viaduct and up over the hills. The farm animals and wild life I see up there from my house is great too.
I cannot understand why instead of holding onto our green spaces and keeping Thornton greener, seems we want to build anywhere and everywhere like every other village/Town in Bradford and across the UK...Its a crying shame. Also with the build are there plans for more schools and amenities to accommodate more people into the area????? I strongly oppose these plans!!

I object to the above proposal on the following grounds.
- we are currently living in a village setting. To add all of these houses would threaten this setting.
- the proposal is in a prominent position on the hillside seen for miles around.
- this proposal would have a detrimental impact on the popular Brontë trail. Currently walked by locals and visitors alike.
- with this and the other 400 properties proposed you will introduce more than 1000 extra vehicles to the local roads. The local road network would require significant improvement.
- the majority of this extra traffic would using the main road by the primary school which is already a danger to our children at peak times.
- the proximity to the cemetery would be detrimental to the current peaceful setting for mourners.
- increased parking along Thornton road would be a danger

This area has too many houses proposed. A few houses using suitable materials on the road side could be suitable. Otherwise there would be two very significant negatives:
1) The Bronte Way (big attraction to visitors) would be ruined.
2) The habitats (7km from the moors) would be destroyed.
Thornton habitats would not be resilient to such an impact - not least due to massive increase in traffic. Birds, animals and plants would disappear from the valley forever. Use the valley to develop a Green Corridor with nature walks for the community, helping improve health and well being.

Too many houses - it would impact on habitats within 7km of the moors. Also, the Bronte Way would be made into a miserable trudge along the back of a housing estate, which would be to the shame of Bradford. The Bronte Way looks great and is valued over the county border at Wycoller, where it is well sign posted and used by walkers. Reduce the number of houses to 20 along Thornton Rd. Develop alternative sites along Thornton Rd below School Green, towards town. Closer to Thornton Grammar School and shops.
