I am objecting to the proposed Policy SP16 on the basis that, to date, Planning Committees have often ignored the objections of a community that will be detrimentally impacted by a proposed development in favour of the Developer. Therefore, City of Bradford MDC does not have a good track record when it comes to supporting the communities it serves. The proposed policy pays lip-service by including a token mention of “…stakeholders and communities with the District...”. For a true “Working Together” approach, the involvement of local communities needs to be more prominent and they need to be given a stronger voice. In addition, those participating in Planning Committees need to be more accountable for their actions. There needs to be greater recognition that the Council is employed to serve the population in its District and not allow Developers and big business to get its way without challenge.
