Draft Bradford District Local Plan - Preferred Options (Regulation 18) February 2021

Representation Summary:

Whilst I agree with much of the proposed Policy CO2, I must object on the grounds of several items within it. City of Bradford MDC has a track record of allowing community assets and facilities to be converted to other uses resulting in a loss to the community it previously served. The lack of economic viability cited by the Developer has often not been sufficiently challenged. Public houses are a typical example of such community assets and provide places for people (including those that live alone) to meet and as places to hold social functions. Many support local charities and community events. The policy should be re-worded to provide stronger protection to community assets, such as pubs, with a default position of retaining and enhancing these. The Policy also needs to more clearly recognise the need to promote, retain and enhance facilities within Local Centres and Rural Areas.
