Draft Bradford District Local Plan - Preferred Options (Regulation 18) February 2021

Representation ID: 5948

Received: 24/03/2021

Respondent: Baildon & Shipley Friends of the Earth

Representation Summary:

1. This is valued open space used by the whole community and is of particular importance as houses nearby either do not have gardens or just have very small yards. It is especially suitable for young children.
2. PHE state: “Prioritise improving access to greenspace and creating greener communities especially in areas of deprivation or where there is poor or unequal access, as an important part of the wider plan to reduce health inequalities locally.“
3. SH3/H also contravenes part of Bradford’s Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2018-2023, which states that “People [should] have access to green space and children [should] have safe places to play outdoors.”
4. On the Council’s own admission, there is already a deficit of greenspace in Shipley, and the priorities should be consistent with its own policies and guidance from PHE by not allowing more greenspace to be built on.
