While I believe that the area definitely needs tidying to make a better image of Ilkley, I cannot believe that this land, given how steep it is is really suitable to build housing. Had consideration been given to the feild beyond dale view / Beverly rise? This is a much larger area, much more accessible. It would seem to make more sense to have a larger development this side, given that the primary school in the area has just been expended.
