This land is essential to all residents that live within that local area . It’s essential even more during our current times living in a pandemic .
Green space matters for children growing up , we can’t take away space for children to play safely and be able to run and enjoy the outdoors .
Save green space - don’t build on it

Still unable to leave home (virtually 12 months) there is a strong desire to return to the closest green space. This area SH3/H is especially valued on account of the requirement for the elderly to acquire exercise in an easily reasonable distance.
Correspondence received refers to the region as SH3/H - Wycliffe Gardens.
With respect, please note this objection,

Children in the area need a space to play and this grass is essential for their well-being at a time when children have already suffered enough.
The view from the surrounding houses will be seriously affected.
The noise from the building work will be significant in the middle of a residential area.
The traffic is already a problem in the area and this will only be exacerbated by this development.
Local residents need some green space for their well-being and mental health and not all residents are able to walk as far as local parks for their fresh air.

Land is a well used recreational area used for walking, children’s play, sport and exercise.
I see it as a green lung in the heart of an already densely populated area which is important to the health and well-being of all the residents.

The last year’s emphasis on the importance of healthy living, highlighted by the Government’s advice to stay outdoors more, has proved that it is essential to have green areas to use for recreation. The impact of losing this grassed area will be immeasurable in terms of detriment to physical and mental well-being.
Accepting the premis that more housing is required, expansion should be to the periphery of this already densely populated area, rather than destroying the only clean air space within this urban ( mainly garden-less) environment.
We object strongly and passionately to the development of Wycliffe Green Space and would anticipate that the designated builders would have the happiness and health of the current and future generations on their conscience if the proposed building work went ahead.

Land provides an area to exercise and clear out thoughts and was a contributing factor to house purchase which has no garden
Shipley is short of greenspace and the Council should be developing available brown field sites first
Wycliffe Rd will require improvement - the bus has difficulty driving up Wycliffe Road when people park vehicles on both sides.
The site slopes steeply downward and maybe unstable ground. The site is an old quarry filled with unknown waste prior to the existing Council housing being constructed in the 60’s.
Site is important for socialising, exercise, dog walking, sport, picnics and play including in winter
The development of the site will breach of local and national planning policies - Robert’s park may be near-by it is often overcrowded and too busy.
The draft proposal has clearly been undertaken as a desktop exercise without any consultation with the community.

This land provides a safe place for children to play away from a network of dangerous roads. The park at Saltaire is not a safe option to get to from the Wycliffe flats as roads are dangerous.
Crowghyll park was a delightful place with ample play area, but the park has no children’s recreation facilities other than the ugliest skate board park I have ever seen, and is mainly used by addicts and alcoholics unless there happens to be a bowling match on.
This area should not be taken away from children

•Important area to walk – alternatives can be slippery in winter. Streets to Roberts Park are narrow.

Access to the site is a constraint to development.
Wycliffe Road/Gardens would seem to be the only sensible access route to any new development but that comes with similar problems via the Kirkgate route and Kirkgate doesn't need any further traffic because it is now used by several bus routes
Loss of existing informal amenity,
Many children who live in the surrounding streets use the site because it is the only safe green space available without having to cross two busy roads.
Loss of a green field site which has a high capacity for absorption benefit, resulting in excessive saturation on the lower levels. Other developments resulted in massive overflow reservoirs being build to prevent flooding during prolonged periods of rain.
How will development ensure that future surface water run off is the same or lower than the current land use.
A major concern is the proximity of any excavation work to the northern boundary.

Main concerns are the impact on road safety in the immediate area.
Taunton Street has a short steep descent down to Wycliffe Road, the road isn't level and has a slight right to left gradient.
Have been instances of cars leaving the road and embankment and ending up overturned and in dangerous positions very close to the building.
Wycliffe Road is also very steep. Cars have impacted the barriers at the bottom of the road on several occasions in the last year.
Danger to flats on the estate is there to see. 20 mph speed limit rarely adhered to, road markings worn away and no traffic calming measures/barriers where desperately needed.
Council highlighted the lack of green recreational space in Shipley - proposal contradicts the council's supposedly green credentials.
Have seen how well the green space has been used. Once built on it's gone forever, it's quite a unique area.

This is valued open space used by the whole community in an area where there are few. Air quality is very poor in the area because of traffic pollution so it is vital to keep such areas for public health reasons. This land is designated as Recreation Open Space in the previous plan . I object to the space having this important designation removed. The land should remain as Open Space, with the typology of ‘Amenity Greenspace’ as defined in the Open Space Audit Feb 2021. The Draft Local Plan claims to protect open spaces when in fact it has removed our 1.3 hectares of open space from the map. We are already an area that has been shown to be deprived of green space. The Draft Local Plan worsens an already dire situation, decreasing the amount of greenspace while the policy states a need to increase it.

I am writing to object to the development plans for Wycliffe Road SH3/H. This land which was given as recreational land in the 1960s is even more necessary today. There are many more vehicles on the roads and fewer safe play and recreation areas. Many families from the local schools and nursery's use this land as they have little or no garden area in their dwellings. The area is used by young and old alike for play, exercise and recreation. It's a place to picnic in good weather and enjoy being outside in a green space. This is area is an invaluable resource to all the residents who live close to it. Please save this very precious area.

The land on Thompson Street and Wycliffe Road is full of cavities and the cellars from previously demolished houses which are full of rubble and live materials and would have to be made safe to build on.
The cost of building the houses would far out weigh the value of the houses.
The land to the west of Wycliffe Road is a quarry and may not be safe to build on.
The land to the top of Elliott Street has a main sewer running through it, I know this as it collapsed in the past covering the field in sewage. The proposal for this green space is not economically viable.

This green space is required fro a number of reasons:- Children to play, Clean oxygen, wild life and space.
As a number of people in Wycliffe Gardens don't have their own garden and this space is what that is "space". Children need to play and wildlife needs to be there for all of us to help produce cleaner oxygen, trees, flowers, plants, grass, bees etc.... Building houses on this space will take all this away and produce more emissions .... we don't need to be pressed in like sardines! Why don't you rebuild homes, houses, flats where there are old derelict mills and empty run down houses all over Bradford and make those areas more pleasant to look at and live.

SH3/H on Wycliffe Road should stay open space for the recreation use for local children/Dog Walkers/Community Football (children from House's and flat's forming football teams) picnics and general community get together.
The green fields help people with their own mental health needs. This is the green outlook from the flat windows.
There are alot of green spaces which are being developed by property developers. Missing the overall point of family life, health and wellbeing of the young children, who are having to travel out of the area which their parents and grandparents have used for as long as I can remember.
I have moved here because of the green fields and peace and quiet that this area offers.
We have a good balance here which is rare in today's environment.
There will be noise disturbances. Fencing and houses overlooking other properties.

The local plan SH3/H on Wycliffe Road should stay as open space for recreation, not housing.
I strongly object to building on the only green space there is locally.
The space should not be built on because it is the only green space nearby, I use it for health and in these times mental health reasons. If it was not there during the pandemic which has been mentioned by health professionals we would have nowhere to use to get fresh air and de-stress.
Places with no green space turn into slum like, depressing areas like inner cities which we are supposedly trying to move away from and then respect and wellbeing goes out of the window. Please do not downgrade the area anymore.

- the site should stay an open space for recreation and not housing.
- It should not be built upon because residents in the immediate vicinity do not have gardens and for the young and elder members of this community it is a long walk to any other space and across dangerous roads
- ) Relax, stroll over or sit and enjoy the amazingly awesome view across the valley and over to Ilkley.
2) It’s the only green space in the immediate area.
3) Living in the flats without a garden it is a ‘safe’ recreational space I can use with young children without disrupting elderly neighbours.
4) Older children use the space to maintain their fitness
- loss of green space and impact on health

I object to these plans on the following grounds:
1. Harmful impact on greenfield sites and urban green spaces. Building on SH3 would deprive local people of one of the very few green spaces in the immediate locality ( kids can play locally here - accessing other parks requires crossing major roads) .
2. Traffic and air quality. This area already suffers from traffic congestion and poor air quality (pollutants at illegal levels) New homes inevitably mean more cars and this can only exacerbate the situation. These developments would impede achieving Bradford council's Clean Air Zone commitments and hinder the achievement of national goals on carbon emissions.
These issues are all the more pressing at a time of national and global climate crisis. I cannot see that the building plans are compatible with environment goals.

SH3/H: Wycliffe Road should stay open space for recreation, not housing.
It should not be built up - has an essential green space role in the local community. It is the only green space nearby for those without gardens and those who cannot easily access other green spaces, which are over dangerous and busy roads. It also supports mental health.
The space has been used by the local community for generation and is vital for families living in the area as recreational space and a community focus. The pandemic has demonstrated the importance of its role.
It is an essential area for bees and other insects and it also attracts birds. In a densely populated area such as Shipley, which also has high levels of pollution and traffic congestion, it is absolutely essential to maintain and cultivate more green space, not less

Object to designation of area for housing.
Serves as a traffic free route to Saltaire. Its most important use is a recreational area for many people living nearby. Serves an important role for play, exercise and health.
Dismayed it has been designated for housing. Plan mentions range of potential impacts on natural and building environment as well as topography and open space constraints showing that it is not suitable. Plan does not convey its value in human terms, particularly for those living around it.
Open Space Audit states it wants “to ensure that all residents have the opportunity to participate in formal and informal sport, recreation, leisure and outdoor play activities, helping to improve both the physical and mental health and well-being of children and adults” - exactly how Wycliffe Green Space is used by the community and why it should be protected. It is needed, used and greatly valued.
