Representation Summary:

This is one of the few remaining areas of green belt land in the area. This development will increase traffic, reduce green space and destroy the landscape.

Bingley Road is already busy with speeding traffic and viewing is restricted when leaving Branksome Drive by car.
There are deer and birds living in the fields and trees within the proposed area.
Infringement of open space views.
There are no local amenities such as shops or primary schools.
This area frequently floods and this development will impact on this.

This is removing valuable green belt from the area and will have an impact on the wildlife aswell as humans who enjoy this space for walks and fresh airs. Also Nabwood is already a traffic issue and cut through more housing is not going to help this issue

Disgusting - that's all I can say. Call yourself an environmentally friendly council but quite brazenly want to destroy the only small areas of greenbelt we have. I and everybody I know will do everything in our power to stop all this nonsense. I am so very angry about all of this.

Respondent: Ms Wendy Robinson

Representation Summary:

Houses to the north downhill from this proposed site are already blighted by surface and river water flooding in high rainfall events. Building here will create more run-off and increase flood risk to homes on Branksome Grove and Drive as well as increasing flow into the Aire. Millions is being spent on slowing the flow of rainwater into the Aire in Leeds FAS2 and shemes like this simply negate all that spending and effort. Leeds FAS2 is meant to improve matters, not enable further reckless building.

Representation Summary:

I oppose any building on what is greenbelt land. How is adding 200 new homes going to help for an area which is already subject to flood risk?

There is lots of alternative land that is far less of a risk to build on nearby, why squeeze into such a small area. The main road is already extremely busy at peak times

Representation Summary:

Green belt land, supports lots of natural birds and animals like deers and helps with air quality. Also concerned the additional residents will put strain on schools in area and this will impact families in nab wood who also feed into these schools. Finally it’s unlikely residents in this area would walk to shops or schools in Saltaire or Bingley so this would increase traffic and pollution.

Representation Summary:

I believe this is a major run off for water into the river aire and if houses were built I think water would sets on the bypass creating greater issues. I also think that the traffic pressure it would put on the surrounding roads would be quite dramatic. I also think that it's one of the few green spaces left surrounding our town. In Covid it's made me realise how important green spaces are for our community's mental health. It would be sad to see such a town put profit before wellbeing.

Respondent: Ms Charlotte Hazel

Representation Summary:

In a time of climate crisis, we should not have to argue against building on greenfield sites.
This plan will increase the risk of flooding in surrounding areas which is already an annual concern
Filling in this greenfield site will adversely affect the air quality in this area.
The beauty of this area will be significantly reduced and as such negatively impact all those who live in and use the area.
It borders on greenbelt land, which has been shown to be so essential during lockdown.

Representation Summary:

I object to this development. Shipley has limited green space and this area provides a corridor for nature. Removing it would be bad for the environment and bad for biodiversity. This whole area is well-used by the local and wider community for walking / running, etc. Removing it would lessen the usable leisure space to locals and reduce the appeal for others visiting, impacting on local tourism. Additionally this area is close to what is already a congested main road with some of the worst pollution records in Bradford. Adding extra cars to the area will worsen this problem considerably.

Bingley road already extremely busy everyone drives off bypass on to this road
Saltaire still real bottle neck . Very difficult getting out of Branksome more house

Insurance companies reluctant to insure down here .. not to mention habitat
Birds, bats etc.

Representation Summary:

This is a greenfield area and should remain as such. Access via Bingley Road would mean further traffic disruption in the area. Access via Branksome would cause significant disruption due to the width of road, congestion and increased pollution. There are no local amenities to support an increase in housing: no public buildings such as churches, mosques etc, no shops, no pubs.

Representation Summary:

Flooding issues and building houses on this land will only add to the problem.
These fields are vital for a diverse array of wild life including birds such as cranes etc as well as grazing for farm animals. The removal of the long established trees in this area would also increase the risk of flooding whilst reducing the carbon capture of the locality.

Representation Summary:

The area is a designated GREEN BELT site. The site will be on the floodplain.
The access will be through one road, onto the A650 which is a busy commuter route which will be dangerous to join.
The delays congestion at the traffic lights installed will be considerable and impact the A650 and the Bingley bypass in both directions.
The significant increase in traffic will cause delays and a 'rat run' through in/out of Nab Wood, which is a quiet residential area.
The roads within the site will be steep and a risk of collisions in snow/ice conditions.

Representation Summary:

Heightened risk of flooding - to new properties and current properties on Branksome Grove from saturated land run off.

Current drainage/sewage systems insufficient ability to cope with volume of water/sewage.

Loss of green space, natural views and habitats for wildlife.

Lack of infrastructure to cope with the expanse of people including public transport, education and medical facilities and dentists.

Increased traffic on Bingley Road and Branksome Drive. The junction is already difficult to get out of.

Representation Summary:

Loss of privacy
Loss of habitat, hedgehogs, bats, owls, a nesting pair of sparrowhawks.
Mature trees necessary for roosting, nesting and co2 absorption in an area with very poor air quality.
Dangerous access onto a busy, fast road.
Run off onto an existing flood plain.
This is Green Belt. Can rules be changed just to suit? Where would that end?
Would housing be affordable and eco friendly? Solar panels, hedgehog highways, summer migrating birds habitat?
There are plenty of brownfield sites around which could be developed to much improve the regeneration of our beautiful area, not built on with ugly unimaginative housing developments
Thankyou

Representation Summary:

The main reasons for my objection are:
. The aim of green belt is to keep the land `open`. The plan will result in the loss of farmland and wildlife habitat and contribute to the Bradford sprawl
• The already busy Bingley Road will experience a further increase in car use. Assuming c 140 household this represents possibly 280 additional cars using this road. There is also the question of access.
• Extra pressure on local services and amenities such as schools
• There are plenty of brownfield sites in/ around the city which could be used as alternative locations.

Building here would cause huge flooding impact to the houses below at Branksome it will also cause the river to rise along the corridor from there to Baildon Bridge with disruption to homes, businesses and traffic at Otley Rd junction. Saltaire would become backed up with 100's more cars each day in each direction polluting the air for miles around. This is one of the few green spaces left around Shipley and has many ancient trees which are protected by their species + wildlife of mammals insects and birds needed to create a healthy environment as opposed to tarmac!

SITE SH5/H
I support the development of the site as it would make a very pleasant place to live, although it would need to be available to a cross section of the population. It would have good access to local schools and recreation areas. This would enhance the lives of the residents and give a good quality of life. Could be incorporated discreetly utilising local wood land and green areas.

This site could be developed with out impacting on the local natural habitat and wildlife to provide a lovely place to live for families.
The site is not overly visible from the majority of existing local residents or passing traffic. It could also be enhanced by utilising existing woodland barriers and provide green space for residents.
It would also ease the housing pressure on densely populated areas who should also have the benefit of their own recreational areas and space.
The site is also a low flood risk which a serious consideration these days.

Representation Summary:

This is a site within the green belt, part of the site is currently a wooded area, and another part of the site has been shown from research by Friends of the Earth and Climate Action that it is suitable for additional woodland planting.

Though the site is not within a zone at flood risk, access to the site, if built, could have to be through an area at flood risk.

Additional housing would generate additional car travel on an already busy traffic road between Saltaire and Bingley, unless public transport provision is greatly increased.

Representation Summary:

This site being developed offers opportunities for families to live in a popular and lovely area. This land is not accessible to the public but if developed would provide easy access to lovely walks for families to enjoy through Hirst Woods, along the river aire and the Leeds Liverpool canal. Some consideration has to be given for other people to enjoy this area rather than increasingly adding more housing into already densely populated inner city areas, who have a right to maintain some green space to enjoy.

This area should be retained as greenbelt land. As it is Branksome dr is a nightmare to join onto Bradford rd and the area is very congested as it is. Adding another outlet to Bradford rd from 140 new houses will be a nightmare for traffic congestion.

Respondent: Andrew Birkinshaw

Representation Summary:

This area has been flooded twice in 2000 and 2015.
The Impact on building 140 houses on this site would have a further catastrophic impact on the area and hugely increase the danger of further flooding which we have to constantly worry about every time it rains.
In 2015 there was already flooding in some houses on Branksome Grove due to the run off from the fields.
There is also huge problems with drainage in lower Branksome Drive, where the sewage gets pumped under the river to Dowley Gap Sewage works, which in flooded times, cannot cope and we get sewage spilling out into the road and our gardens.
This is a Greenfield site and there are Deer dwelling in this are as well as Bats, who roost in the trees and use the fields to feed.
I Strongly oppose this plan.

We oppose the building of houses for the following..
Loss of natural view, loss of open walking area, too much traffic, more pollution, threat to wildlife,
Use brown belt sites instead and regenerate empty properties
Are the new houses affordable to people in this area
Are schools and local amenities suitable to cope with extra families in this already populated area
New houses would split public footpaths spoiling the area
Branksome Drive to be the access point for traffic, not wide enough and not able to cope with the high volume of extra traffic, especially at peak times
The fields surrounding Branksome have poor drainage
If the Bradford district is to offer 1200 new houses, why are the majority going in this area alone
We think the area is completely unsuitable for the amount of new properties proposed
